Rules and Regulations for Graduate Degree Programs

  • Title and Extent of Application
    • These regulations may be called “Examination Regulations for Academic Programs at University of Wah, Pakistan”.
    • The University of Wah reserves the rights to make appropriate amendments in these regulations as and when necessary. Such amendments shall govern all University students admitted under these regulations.
  • Definitions
    • Academic Program: An “Academic Program” means a program of studies, which leads to the award of University Degree to enrolled student after successful completion of all its requirements.
    • Academic Year: An academic year for graduate studies shall consist of two semesters (Fall and Spring) and one non-regular semester (Summer), which is optional for research/releated work.
    • Semester: A “Semester” means a declared duration of 20 weeks including teaching and examinations.
    • Course: A “Course” means a course of studies as prescribed in the detailed syllabi approved by the Competent Authority and successful completion of which shall be the requirement of the degree.
    • Credit Hour: A “Credit Hour” means 1 hour of theory lecture or 3 hours of practical work for lab courses per week in a semester.
    • Grade: A “Grade'' means the letter grade earned by a student in a course depending on his/her performance.
    • Grade Points: “Grade Points” means the numerical score associated with each letter grade
    • Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA): “SGPA” means the credit hour weighted average of the Grade Points earned for all the courses in a semester.
    • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): “CGPA” means the credit hour weighted average of the Grade Points earned for all the courses in all the semesters attended.
    • Mid-Semester Examination: “Mid-Semester Examination” means the examination to be held after 8-9 weeks of teaching during the semester.
    • End-Semester Examination: “End-Semester Examination” means the examination to be held at the end of each semester on dates that the University notifies.
    • Academic Deficiency: “Academic Deficiency” means that a student fails to meet the required GPA/CGPA and/or has yet to pass “F” grade(s).
    • Minimum Residency: “Minimum Residency” means minimum number of academic years/semesters that must be attended by the student to complete the degree program.
    • Maximum Residency: “Maximum Residency” means maximum number of academic years/semesters permissible to complete the degree program. Further, beyond the maximum residency, the student shall cease to be on the University roll.
  • Freezing/Dropping of Courses
    • A student may drop/freeze an enrolled semester before appearing in the final examination with the permission of the Vice Chancellor/Chairperson Board of Advanced Studies & Research on the recommendations of the Chairperson and Dean due to circumstances beyond his/her control, subject to fulfillment of condition that the student has passed the final examination of previous semester with minimum prescribed GPA/CGPA required for the said degree program.
    • During the freeze/dropped semester, bonafide status of the student shall remain suspended. He/she will not be entitled to avail any privilege as that of a regular student.
    • A student freezing a semester before the registration of courses shall be required to pay Rs 2500/- for continuation of the program.
    • A student, after registering for a semester, on his/ her written request made to the chairperson before the start of End Semester Examination, chooses not to continue the semester shall deem to have dropped that semester and his/her fee shall not be refunded or carried forward for the semester on resumption of studies as per rules.
    • The facility of dropped/ freeze can be availed only once during the whole degree program and that too for one semester only.
    • The dropped/frozen semester(s) will not be counted towards the maximum residency.
    • If a student remains absent more than 30 consecutive days without any valid reason(s) his/ her registration will be cancelled.
  • Examinations
    • Conduct of Examinations:
      The examinations of the University will be conducted under the auspices of examination office and shall be held according to the Date Sheet as notified by the Controller of Examinations.
    • Practical Examination:
      Practical examination of lab courses, if any, will be held as per schedule given by the department (if applicable) with the approval of the Controller of Examinations.
    • Course Evaluation:
      A student shall be evaluated in each course on the basis of aggregate marks obtained through Assignments, Quizzes, Mid-Semester Examination, Semester Project and End- Semester Examination as per the following weightage

    • Result Submission

        After End-Semester Examination, the instructor will generate the result sheet through AVICENNA and, with the endorsement of Chairperson and Dean, submit the final sheet to the examination office within five days of the respective examination paper. The instructor shall also submit the marked answer books, exam attendance sheet and a copy of question paper along with the grade sheet.

    • Examination Eligibility

      A student shall be eligible to appear in the End-Semester Examination provided that:

      • He/she has been on the roll of the University during that semester.
      • He/she has registered him/her for the courses of studies and attended not less than 80% of the lectures delivered in that course. The Vice Chancellor may condone the deficiency up to 5% of the required attendance on the recommendation of respective Dean and Chairperson. The students falling short of required/mandatory attendance shall not be allowed to appear in the End-Semester Examination of the concerned course and shall be treated as having failed in that course.
      • Any student, who has not paid his/her fees, shall not be allowed to sit in the Mid-Semester Examination and End-Semester Examination.
      • Handicapped/disabled student will be provided a writer by the University on the recommendation of Chairperson of the Department concerned. The writer shall be having a level of education lower than that of the candidate. He/she would be allowed 45 minutes over and above the stipulated time for solving the question paper.
    • Grades and Promotion:
      • The minimum passing marks for each course shall be 50%.
      • A student failing to complete required credits in maximum residency of the program (i.e. 4 academic years for MS program, and 8 academic years for Ph.D. shall cease to be the student of the University
      • A separate transcript for the period of studies will also be issued to student on request showing the credits completed and grades obtained in courses on the payment of transcript fee. Transcript will bear the signatures of the Controller of Examinations. However, Provisional Certificate will be signed by the Controller of Examinations and the respective Dean.
      • There shall be no re-evaluation of answer books. A student may, on payment of prescribed fee, within thirty days from the date of declaration of the result, get the answer books re-checked for any numerical error like transfer of marks and/or totaling which will be done by the examination office; however, for the discrepancy like unmarked question/portion the case will be sent to the Chairperson of the concerned department. Errors and omissions, if any, shall be rectified.
      • The answer books used in the examination and the students' attendance sheets after a period of one year will be disposed off.
    • Grading System

      The students are awarded grades i.e. A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D and F as per following equivalence:

      Note: “I” grade is not counted in calculation of CGPA.

    • Conduct of Viva Voce

      Viva Voce Examination date will be announced by the department concerned.

    • Fresh Admission:
      Admission in the first semester, without going through the admission process, is granted to only those students who have been dismissed on academic grounds but only for once as fresh admission
    • Incomplete (I) Grade:
      Admission in the first semester, without going through the admission process, is granted to only those students who have been dismissed on academic grounds but only for once as fresh admission
      • A student may be awarded “I” grade in a course, if he/she cannot take the End-Semester Examination due to permissible reasons (accidental/medical/ religious) reported timely. The Chairperson of the concerned department shall decide whether the reason was permissible or not. The appeal may be filed with the Dean of Faculty concerned whose decision shall be final.
      • A student awarded “I” grade in a course may appear in the End-Semester Examination of that course after completing the requirements which make him/her eligible to appear in the examination of the said course. However, in such case, the student's previous attendance and pre-final results of Quizzes, Assignments, Mid-Semester Exam, etc., shall stand valid.
    • Repeating Courses/Improving Grades:
      If a student obtains "F" grade in any course, he/she shall have to repeat that course. Similarly whenever a student obtains a grade lower than "B" he/she can improve the grade. A student of MS shall be allowed to improve three (3) courses to improve the grade in the whole course of study.

      • An academically deficient regular (within minimum residency) student and academically deficient casual (after minimum residency) student shall be allowed to repeat/improve the courses whenever teaching and examination schedule make it possible for him/her to register him/herself for the courses. In case of academically deficient casual (after minimum residency) student, for repetition/improvement of a course the student shall have to pay Casual-Course Registration and Examination Fee as prescribed by the University.
      • As soon as student improves a course, his/her previous grade for that course shall be cancelled, and latest Grade earned by the student shall be substituted and considered for the computation of CGPA. It shall be noted that a student can only improve a grade lower than "B"; however, the improved grade should not exceed from "B".
      • A student shall not be allowed to improve his/her CGPA once he/she attains minimum of 2.50 CGPA (MS) and 3.00 CGPA (Ph.D.) after minimum residency period, provided there is no “F” grade in courses required for the award of degree.
    • Withholding of Program’s Final Semester Result
      • The result of final examination of a student, who is allowed to appear in the End-Semester examination while carrying “F” courses of the lower semesters, shall not be declared till he/she has cleared all courses of lower semesters. His/her End-Semester result will be declared with the session in which he/she clears his/her last course of the degree program.
      • The Dean may withhold the declaration of the result of a candidate who has not met all the conditions of the eligibility.
    • Award of the Degree

      The University of Wah shall award the degree to the student who fulfills the following conditions:

      • Has successfully completed/passed total credit hours/courses and defended his/her research thesis of the degree within the prescribed duration of the degree program.
      • Has scored a final Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 out of 4.00 in case of MS and 3.00 out of 4.00 in case of Ph.D.
    • Gold Medal

      In MS degree program, the student who tops the class in a degree program in terms of CGPA, will be awarded a gold medal and a certificate to this effect, provided that:

      • His/her class size of the degree program is minimum of 10 students.
      • He/she obtained minimum CGPA 3.50/4.00.
      • He/she did not fail/improve any course.
      • He/she completed the degree in minimum residency.
      • He/she had a good conduct and behavior during the stay for the degree to be certified by the Dean concerned.
    • Commencement

      The University shall hold formal commencement annually for the award of degrees and certificates to its graduates. The University may, however, issue Provisional Certificates/Academic Degrees (on payment of prescribed fees) during the interim period between the graduation of a student and holding of the next commencement.

    • Eradication/Controlling of Unfair Means During Examinations

      In accordance with the functions of the University (Para-e) and the power and the duties of Academic Council (Para- 2.c) as given in the University of Wah Act, 2009, the University has constituted the Unfair Means Control Committee to deal with the cases pertaining to the use of unfair means by the students in the examination as per prescribed regulations.

  • MS Rules and Regulations
    • General
      • NOC is required from degree holders from other Universities for the registration of MS program in University of Wah.
      • The Minimum period for the completion of MS degree program shall be two years (4 semesters) from the date of registration and the maximum period shall be four years (08 semesters) for all faculties.
      • The employees of the government/other agencies nominated for MS degree at this University shall have to take study leave to pursue studies as a regular student, failing which he/ she will not be admitted. However, after getting admission by a nominee in the university, it would be obligatory for the parent department to sanction the study leave or extension in the leave in favor of the nominee within one semester failing which, his/her admission shall stand cancelled.
      • The UW may allow its employees to enroll them for postgraduate courses (after getting permission from the competent authority). He/she under this arrangement will be a part time student and full-time employee.
      • Admission in the respective department shall be approved by the Dean of concerned faculty
      • The course offered for the degree programs may be amended from time to time.
      • A student shall present an acceptable thesis in addition to completing his/her approved course work in order to qualify for the award of the degree.
      • A student admitted to the degree programs shall be required to take minimum 24 credits (excluding 06 credits for thesis research). Deficiency course(s) shall not be counted toward the minimum credit hours requirement.
      • Under special circumstances when a course(s) is(are) not offered in UW, a student may take a maximum of six credit of relevant courses in another HEC recognized institute/university. The grade so earned must not be below “B”. Any such course(s) could be transferred on the recommendation of Chairperson subject to the approval of Board-of-Faculty.
      • All semester examinations shall be held at the University Campus.
      • English shall be the medium of instructions
      • If the course(s) studied by a student in his/her previous degree (on the basis of which admission is requested) do not provide adequate background for the degree program of study, he/she may be required to make up the deficiency by taking additional course(s) as determined by the respective Departmental Board-of-Studies.
      • To pass a deficiency course, a student is required to obtain at least “C” grade.
      • Deficiency course once qualified will not lapse and shall not be called in question again and need not to be revalidated.
      • A course studied to qualify a degree will not be taken/considered for any other higher degree program.
      • All the MS students must register at least three (03) courses in their 1st semester of studies, accordingly the departments should offer number of courses to full fill the aforesaid condition.
    • Research Work and Appointment of Supervisor
      • A student may register for thesis on the successful completion of 18 Cr Hrs course work with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.
      • Each student shall perform research work as partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree under the supervision of a supervisor appointed for the purpose by the BASR (Board of Advanced Studies and Research) on the recommendations of Chairperson and the Dean of Faculty.
      • Where necessary and desirable, Co-supervisor may also be appointed.
      • A Supervisor must be a faculty member of the University of Wah.
      • A Co-supervisor (optional) can be faculty member of UW/another University or R&D organization from the relevant field.
      • Supervisor appointed for MS research must hold a Ph.D./MS degree as permissible under the HEC rules on the subject.
      • A student selects a field of interest and requests his/her research supervisor to assign a topic of research/thesis.
      • The student will have to give a seminar on assigned research topic called Research/Project Topic Approval Seminar in front of Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC).
      • After a positive report of GEC and the supervisor, topic of research along with research proposal will be submitted by the Chairperson to BoF for approval of BASR.
      • In case, a student, duly recommended by the Chairperson and Dean of the Faculty concerned to conduct his/her complete/part of thesis research in other institution/laboratory, is allowed by the Dean/Chairperson BASR/VC the coordinating researcher/scientist may be taken as Cosupervisor/ special member on the supervisory committee of the student. However, the University will not bear any financial liability in this context.
    • Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC)
      • Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC) of the student will be constituted by the Chairperson in consultation with supervisor and approved by the Dean of the concerned Faculty.
      • The constitution of the GEC will be as follows:
        • Suitably qualified and experienced individual as decided by the Chairperson in consultation with Dean of respective faculty will be head of the committee.
        • Student's Supervisor
        • Co-supervisor (if any).
        • Two experts from the Department concerned with Research interests in the relevant field. Each expert must hold at least MS degree.
      • The supervisor cannot chair the GEC.
      • One faculty member will not chair more than five GEC committees.
      • The student will preferably brief the committee on a quarter-yearly basis about his/her progress on the research project/thesis and seek further guidance from its members. The proceedings of the meetings must be recorded.
    • Thesis Defense
      • On successful completion of the research work, the Supervisor on the approved proforma shall inform the Controller of Examination through the Chairperson concerned and Dean about the date on which the “Thesis Defense” is to be held. The Vice Chancellor shall appoint an external examiner from a panel of examiners recommended by the concerned Chairperson and Dean of the Faculty.
      • Thesis Defense shall be held at the University Campus on such a date as may be notified by the Controller of Examination in consultation with the Supervisor/ Chairperson.
      • The student shall defend his/her thesis in front of a committee consisting of Chairperson, Supervisor of the student, Co-supervisor (if any), GEC members and an External Examiner.
      • The thesis shall be evaluated by one External Evaluator and one Internal Evaluator.
      • The supervisor shall send the award list of thesis examination after counter signature of the Chairperson to the office of the Controller of Examination and making sure that the student has incorporated the suggested improvements.
      • After successful defense of thesis, the student shall submit hard-binded copies of his/her thesis signed by Supervisor, External Examiner and Chairperson, to the Controller of Examination, one each for Controller of Examinations, University Library, Supervisor, Cosupervisor (if any), GEC members, Department and the student.
      • Plagiarism report along with the certificate from Supervisor and declaration by the student must be submitted to Controller of Examination while submitting the thesis. The Controller of Examination shall notify the result of the student after receiving a copy of thesis.
      • If a student fails in the thesis examination, he/she may enroll again and will submit a revised thesis within six months after the date of declaration of the result of the last thesis examination, on payment of the prescribed thesis examination fee. He/she can avail this chance only once.
      • If the thesis, submitted by a student for final evaluation, is proved to be copied/plagiarized as per HEC criteria, it will be liable to be rejected on the report of supervisory committee and the Controller of Examination will declare the student fail in thesis examination. The admission of such student shall be cancelled, and he/she shall not be readmitted under any circumstances.
      • If the thesis of a student is proved to be plagiarized as per HEC criteria after its evaluation and declaration of result, previous result of the student will be cancelled, and he/she will be declared as fail in thesis examination. Such a student shall not be readmitted to MS under any circumstances.
      • Each successful student shall be awarded the Degree of Master of Science in the relevant discipline.
  • Ph.D. Rules and Regulations
    • Program Course Work
      • The minimum period for completion of Ph.D. degree program shall be three years from the date of registration, and the maximum period shall be eight years.
      • The courses shall be selected with the approval of the Supervisor from amongst the Ph.D. courses being offered by the Department
      • A student can take a maximum of 6 credit hours of relevant courses in another Department of the University of Wah or another HEC recognized Institute/University on recommendation of the Supervisor/GEC from the approved list of courses for the relevant program.
      • The student must qualify Comprehensive Examination within four years. Maximum of two attempts are permitted during this period.
    • Research Work and Appointment of Supervisor
      • Each student shall perform successful research work as partial fulfillment of the degree requirements under the supervision of a Supervisor appointed for the purpose by the BASR on the recommendations of the Chairperson and the Dean of respective Faculty.
      • Where necessary and desirable, Co-supervisor may also be appointed.
      • A Supervisor must be a faculty member of University of Wah.
      • A Co-supervisor (optional) can be a faculty member of UW/another University or R&D organization in the related field.
      • Supervisor and Co-supervisor appointed for research must hold a Ph.D. Degree.
      • A student shall select a topic of research work/thesis in consultation with his/her Supervisor which will further require clearance from the GEC. The topic so selected will be recommended by the Board-of-Faculty for approval by the BASR.
    • Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC)
      • Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC) of the student will be constituted by the Chairperson in consultation with Supervisor and approved by BASR.
      • The constitution of the GEC will be as follows:
        • Suitably qualified and experienced individual as decided by the Chairperson in consultation with Dean of respective faculty will be head of the committee.
        • Student's supervisor.
        • Co-supervisor (if any).
        • Two experts, at least one from the Department concerned with Research interest in the relevant field. Each expert must hold a Ph.D. Degree.
      • The Supervisor cannot chair the GEC.
      • One faculty member will not chair more than five GEC committees.
      • After the approval of Research topic by BASR, the student will regularly brief the GEC on six-monthly basis about his/her progress on the research topic and to seek further guidance.
    • Assessment of Academic Performance
      Regulations regarding the course work for Ph.D. degree program will be as per University guidelines. The student must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
    • Comprehensive Examination
      After completion of the Ph.D. course work a Ph.D. registered student shall necessarily pass the Ph.D. comprehensive examination. Passing the Comprehensive Exam allow the student to stay, begin doctoral research and rise to the status of a doctoral candidate.
      • Structure of Comprehensive Examination
        A scholar shall take the comprehensive exam after the completion of 18 credit hours of Ph.D. level course work with a minimum CGPA 3.00. Comprehensive exam shall consist of two parts, Part-A: Written C o m p r e h e n s i v e E x a m a n d P a r t - B : O r a l Comprehensive Exam. The scholar has to qualify the comprehensive exam in not more than two attempts (two attempts for each part). Failing in the comprehensive exam (either written or oral) even in 2nd attempt will lead to the cancellation of Ph.D. admission.
        • Part-A: Written Comprehensive Examination Written Comprehensive Exam shall be of 3 hours duration. It is composed of questions from core area of the basic field of study (20%), and from student's major area of research/specialization (80%). Departments shall prepare separate question papers of Written Comprehensive Exam for each specialization area. Written Comprehensive Exam may contain multiplechoice questions but shall also contain subjective Part. Passing marks of Written Comprehensive Exam is 60%. Passing of Written Comprehensive Exam is mandatory before taking the Oral Comprehensive Exam. Question papers for Written Comprehensive Examination shall be prepared by the GEC supervised by the chairperson concerned. In case the chairperson is also the student's supervisor, Dean of the faculty shall supervise the preparation of question paper(s). The answer sheets of Written Comprehensive Exam shall be marked by one of the GEC members as appointed by the Chairperson concerned. The answer sheets of Written Comprehensive Exam shall be deposited to the UW Examination Office after the conduction of Written Comprehensive Examination. Departments shall submit the Graduate Program's Form-805 after every attempt of Written Comprehensive Exam on account of each Ph.D. student.
        • Part-B: Oral Comprehensive Examination After qualifying the Written Comprehensive Examination, the scholar shall appear for the Oral Comprehensive Exam/Viva-Voce in front of the oral examination committee. The oral examination committee shall be composed of student's GEC members, Chairperson and the Dean. Oral Comprehensive Exam or Viva-Voce is based on verbal questions covering the general field of study, and the area of research/specialization. The oral examination committee shall determine, whether the student be allowed to proceed for the doctoral research or otherwise. The decision shall be based on 'majority vote'. If the number of votes for “Pass” equals to that for “Fail”, the verdict of supervisor will be taken as final decision. The Oral Comprehensive Exam shall be taken within fortnight after the Written Comprehensive Examination. Department shall submit the Graduate Program's From-806 after every attempt of Oral Comprehensive Exam on account of each Ph.D. student.
      • Schedule of Comprehensive Examination
        Comprehensive examination shall be held right after the completion of course work (announcement of graduate results) as per the following schedule.

      • Post-Comprehensive Examination Procedures
        Furthermore, it is apprised that after qualifying the comprehensive exam the Ph.D. student shall present his/her research proposal in front of GEC in the next semester. If a student fails in the first attempt of comprehensive exam, he/she shall wait for the next scheduled date of comprehensive exam for the second attempt. Permission for late attempt of comprehensive exam can be granted by the Dean under special circumstances; however, it should be mandatory to pass the comprehensive exam within one year after completion of Ph.D. course work.
    • Thesis Proposal Defense Seminar
      After qualifying Comprehensive Examination, a student shall defend his/her research proposal in a Thesis Proposal Defense Seminar in front of the GEC.
    • Research Evaluation

      After approval of Thesis Topic Proposal by the BASR on the recommendation of BoF and GEC, the following requirements shall be met:

      • After every six months, the student shall give a seminar/ presentation about the Research work and will also submit the progress report to his/her Supervisor with a copy to members of the GEC.
      • Upon successful completion of required level of research work, as assessed by the supervisor, the student will write a Ph.D. thesis. The completed research work shall meet the following criteria:
        • It shall form a distinct contribution to the body of knowledge and afford evidence of originality shown by the discovery of new facts, by the exercise of independent critical judgment, and/or by the invention of new methods of investigation.
        • It shall not include the research work for which a degree has already been conferred in this or any other University
        • It shall be written in English in accordance with the standard/approved format.
      • Plagiarism Test of student's Ph.D. thesis will be conducted as per UW plagiarism policy.
      • Any part of the thesis which has been published before submission of the thesis will be reflected at the end of the thesis in the form of list of publications of the student.
      • GEC will conduct initial evaluation of the thesis before submitting it to Foreign Evaluators.
      • Ph.D. thesis after conducting plagiarism test will require two positive evaluation reports out of three Foreign Evaluators from technologically advanced country/countries appointed by the Vice Chancellor as proposed by GEC and Supervisor from the approved list of Foreign Evaluators.
      • There shall be a standing list of Ph.D. subject experts called as Foreign Evaluators for each Department consisting of persons of eminence in the respective field of Research. The list shall be suggested from time to time by the Board-of-Studies of the Department/Board-of-Faculty concerned and approved by the BASR. The Foreign Evaluators will be requested to evaluate the Thesis for its suitability for the award of a Ph.D. degree.
      • The student shall in the first instance submit four copies of his/her completed thesis duly approved by his/her Supervisor and the Chairperson along with an application on prescribed form to the Controller of Examination, for onward submission to Foreign Evaluators for the evaluation of his/her thesis.
      • The reports of the Foreign Evaluators shall be placed before the GEC for its consideration.
      • If the thesis is adjudged as adequate/satisfactory by two of the three Foreign Evaluators, the GEC shall allow the student to appear in the Oral Defense (Thesis Defense) Examination.
      • If two or all of the three Foreign Evaluators find the thesis as wholly inadequate/unsatisfactory, it may be rejected by the BASR on the recommendation of the GEC.
      • If any of the Foreign Evaluators finds the thesis adequate but suggests minor modification/revision, this may be incorporated with the approval of the Supervisor.
      • If any of the Foreign Evaluators suggests major modification/revision of the thesis, the student shall be required to resubmit a revised version of the thesis duly certified by the Supervisor, within specified period.
      • The revised version of the thesis shall be approved by the same Examiner who suggested modification/ revision of the thesis.
    • Thesis Defense
      • A student will be eligible for Thesis Defense after he/she has completed all the requirements as outlined in Sec. (7) above, and has published one paper in an HEC approved journal in the relevant field.
      • The Thesis Defense shall be conducted by the Supervisor and the two External Examiners appointed by the Vice Chancellor from the approved list of External Examiners for the Department concerned.
      • The Thesis Defense shall be open to the public but the evaluation will be done by the External Examiners and the Supervisor.
      • If a student fails to satisfy the examiners in the Thesis Defense, he/she may be given a second chance to defend his/her thesis within a period of six months.
      • Evaluation report/result of the Thesis Defense shall be prepared by the External Examiners and the Supervisor, and sent to the Controller of Examination through the Chairperson along with hard-binded copies of thesis duly signed by the Supervisor, External Examiner and Chairperson for distribution to the Main Library, the Department, the Supervisor(s), GEC members, HEC and the student.
      • A student who successfully completes all the requirements (residency period of three years, minimum 18 credit hours of course work with minimum 3.00 CGPA, passing of comprehensive examination, successful thesis defense, significant research, publication of a paper in HEC recognized journal prescribed for relevant discipline and successful thesis defense) shall be awarded, with the approval of the GEC, the degree of Ph.D. under the Seal of the University.
